England head coach Chris Silverwood will fly home early from the ongoing New Zealand tour due to a family bereavement. He will return to England after day two of the second and final Test against New Zealand to be played at Seddon Park in Hamilton from November 29, Friday.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, November 27, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Silverwood will return home on Saturday, November 30.

The official statement reads: “Following a family bereavement, England Head Coach Chris Silverwood will return to England after day two of the second Test match at Seddon Park on Saturday, November 30.”

In the absence of Silverwood, England’s assistant coaches Graham Thorpe and Paul Collingwood will manage Joe Root and his team for the remainder of the New Zealand tour.

Meanwhile, the Black Caps are leading the two-match Test series after winning the first Test by an innings and 65 runs in Mount Maunganui.

They will now head to Seddon Park in Hamilton for the series decider on Friday. Noteworthy, the Hamilton Test would be the last fixture of England’s New Zealand tour, while was Silverwood’s first assignment after taking the charge of the team from Trevor Bayliss.
