Former India cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, who has been facing the heat over the past few days for skipping a meeting on air pollution in Delhi to do commentating duties in Indore during the India-Bangladesh Test, has said that he is petrified of Jalebis now.

Speaking to India Today journalist Rahul Kanwal, Gambhir opened up his jalebi-eating pictures with former cricket colleague VVS Laxman, saying he had no idea that this will turn into such a big controversy.

Taking to Twitter, Rahul Kanwal posted some pictures with Gambhir and put the words of the latter in the caption.

“He’s now petrified of Jalebis says @GautamGambhir but we took him to a Jalebi shop in his constituency none the less. ‘Don’t eat sweets. Hadn’t eaten a jalebi in months. Took one bite for a TV shoot and @AamAadmiParty turned it into a pointless controversy. Judge me for my work,” the tweet read.

Earlier, Gambhir had said if his eating jalebi causes pollution in Delhi then he is ready to stop eating the sweet dish.

"If Delhi's pollution rose because I ate jalebis, then I can give up jalebis altogether," the former opener had told news agency ANI. "They started trolling me within 10 minutes...if they had invested so much effort in reducing pollution, we would have been able to breathe."

He had also accused AAP of making an issue of his commercial engagements, entered into before he became an MP, to mask the ''incompetence'' and ''political greed'' of their leader (Arvind Kejriwal).

“It is the saddest thing that the party which claims to represent the honest people could do,” Gambhir remarked.
