England Test captain Joe Root is all set to return to his favorite No.4 position in the batting order for the upcoming New Zealand Test series, as he feels this slot would be more beneficial for both him and his team, saying he will get more out of him as a batsman and captain.

The 28-year-old moved up to the troublesome number three spot for the drawn Ashes series, but he struggled to put up consistent performances, averaging a modest 32.5.

Ahead of the first Test of the two-match Test series against New Zealand at the Bay Oval on November 21, Root hinted that he would continue to bat at No.4 position in the near future and even he batted at this position in the warm-up game in Whangarei.

Root told BBC's Test Match Special, “I'd like to be consistent with it now, moving forward. It doesn't always work exactly how you want it to but it would be nice for that to be the case. I just think it suits my game a little bit more. It definitely fits in with captaincy a little bit better for me.”

The right-hander signed off by saying, “I know previous captains have preferred to get out there early and just get amongst it but I quite like to split the two and to really focus on my batting. I've found over time that, generally, I've consistently played better in that position.”
