"Traditionalist" Tillakaratne Dilshan welcomes Sourav Ganguly's move of Day-Night Test

Many changes in the games' rule might be a mess, says Dilshan.

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan on Thursday, November 14, said he isn’t a fan of the Day-Night Test and also not impressed with the latest idea of having numbers on the white jerseys.

However, Dilshan has welcomed the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s move as India is all set to play a first-ever Test match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens on 22 November.

Dilshan told media at an event in Mumbai: “I don’t think you should play day and night. Test cricket, you should play during the day, and with full white clothes, not with the numbers on the shirt. That’s my personal view. Play it like a gentleman’s game.”

He continued, “Sourav has played a lot of cricket for India and he knows the system. He knows what’s happening. This might be a good move for Indian cricket.”

The ICC had to change the boundary rule after many criticized it after England’s World Cup 2019 triumph over New Zealand on the boundary counts, but former Islanders feel the constant change of rules is not good for the game.

Dilshan signed off by saying, “Definitely it [the boundary rule] was unfair, but the rule was there, and it was there from before the final [so both teams were aware of it]. At least now, [there is] change and [it is] fair to both teams. But now we should stick to one rule. And stick with it for five to 10 years. Else it’s going to be a mess. The constant change of rules is not good for cricket.”
