Zaheer Khan is keen to extend his winning record over Yuvraj Singh when he faces his former India teammate at the T10 League in Abu Dhabi, starting on Friday (November 15).

The two players made their India debut in the same year (2000) and were the key members of 2011 World Cup winning team.

While Zaheer will turn up for Delhi Bulls in his second season, Yuvraj will make his tournament debut for Maratha Arabians.

Speaking to The National, Zaheer quipped he has generally got the better of Yuvraj when they have come up against each other in the past.

“We have spoken about it the banter is always there,” the left-arm pacer said, who played 92 Tests and 200 one-day internationals for India.

“He is all geared up and waiting to take me on. I keep reminding him about the record I have over him, in terms of our tally playing domestic matches.

“So far I am winning, but this is a great opportunity for him to change things around.

"It is just the format for him, and I am looking forward for special performances from him as well.”

Zaheer featured in three matches last season, when the franchise were known as Bengal Tigers. He might have a greater workload to deal with on this occasion given the spate of withdrawals ahead of the tournament.

The Bulls had picked up Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir and Mohammed Hasnain to bolster their pace attack. However, the duo was among a number of players who were declined NOC to play in Abu Dhabi T10 by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Subsequently, Delhi Bulls signed Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera and West Indies’ Ravi Rampaul at the last minute.

Nonetheless, Zaheer is unfazed by the late confusion and he is just happy to be back playing.

“In terms of bringing out that competitive edge, I think two weeks in a year is just about the perfect dose of cricket for me,” the 41-year-old said.

“I have been looking forward to it. Last year, I really had a good time and it is pretty much the same group this time around.

“That is also a good feature for us, the dressing room camaraderie. In a way, you miss that once you move away from the international game.”
