As Delhi struggles with its worst-ever air pollution crisis in last three-years, veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh, on Monday (November 4), expressed his concern over rising pollution levels in the capital and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate action to address the problem.

Taking to Twitter, Harbhajan conveyed his concerns to PM Modi while extending his full support to the government, saying he will contribute in whatever way possible to help improve the situation in the national capital, as the rising level of pollution is causing several health threats to the residents.

In the video, the off-spinner can be seen saying: “I want to speak about the pollution in North India. We all are a cause for it, including me. We burn cars and things we do also cause harm to the environment. We have learned over the last few years that fodder burning also causes a lot of pollution.”

Singh added, “It is harmful for every child anyone residing in those areas. We have also learned that our life expectancy will reduce by 7-10 years if we continue with such practices, so we need to act.”

Delhi is currently facing a severe pollution crisis thanks to the post-Diwali smog as the Air Quality Index of the national capital has slipped into a hazardous level.

However, the AQI moved from "severe" to "very poor" category on Tuesday (November 5), thanks to an increase in wind speed which has slightly reduced the deadly haze in Delhi, but the visibility has still stood to almost zero with people avoiding stepping outside.

On Sunday, the pollution level reached a three-year high in the national capital, as the average AQI had registered 494 – the highest since November 2016 and the government declared a public health emergency in the region till November 5.

However, the Meteorological (MeT) department has claimed that there is a possibility of strong winds in the next 24 hours in Delhi which could bring relief for the Delhiites.
