Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena is set to host a five-day 'cage cricket' tournament next year in February. Yes, you heard it right. The matches will be played one-on-one by some renowned cricketers like Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Shahid Afridi, Kevin Pietersen, and Andre Russell.
Something like this has never happened before. The contest will be called the Ultimate Kricket Challenge. Launching the event by posing like a boxing match-up, both Gayle and Yuvraj said they are excited for this unique take on cricket. The tentative dates for the event are from February 18-23.
"I can't wait to have a practice run," said Gayle. "It's a new and exciting format and its growth depends on how we start the first edition," Yuvraj shared his views.
Each player will face 30 balls, and a batsman is allowed only to get dismissed five times. If he gets out more than that, his innings will be over. Winner will be decided by the number of runs scored.
The match balls, which were on display at the press conference, will be lighter than regular balls at 130oz. It is said that Bollywood stars will attend the games to attract the viewers.
