Former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers feels the Mzansi Super League (MSL) can be very crucial in finding young talents for Proteas. De Villiers talked about the fierce competition in the tournament which can provide South Africa depth in their squad.

South Africa is going through a transition with experienced players retiring from competitive cricket. In this time, it's essential to spot young talents early and groom them for the long term. Recently, South Africa suffered a 3-0 series defeat against India in Tests, while managed to draw the T20I series 1-1.

"The quality of cricket was probably the most impressive thing of the tournament (last year), there was high-standard of wickets and very competitive cricket," said De Villiers.

"A lot of youngsters came through, which in my opinion, is the aim of the tournament and that's to strengthen our cricket across South Africa and give youngsters the opportunity to mingle with some of the stars around the world."

Jozi Stars won the inaugural season in which Rassie van der Dussen had made a name for himself.

"With the MSL, we saw some youngsters come through, and it was only the first year. I think it's going to get bigger and stronger. Guys like Lutho Sipamla, Reeza (Hendricks), Rassie (van der Dussen) and a guy like Bjorn Fortuin, who had an opportunity recently, and George Linde... There's so many that all of a sudden appear on the big stage and when they get an opportunity on an international level, they seem to be ready," said De Villiers.

"They seem more mature than they supposed to be at a young age - certainly more than I was when I was young - so a tournament like this is incredibly important for the strength and the depth of our cricket in South Africa."

The second season will start on November 8 at the Wanderers.
