Rename JSCA Stadium after MS Dhoni, says Sunil Gavaskar

MS Dhoni made his India debut way back in 2004 in Ranchi.

Former India captain-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar on Saturday (October 19) said that Ranchi’s Jharkhand States Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium should be renamed to MS Dhoni Stadium to give a fitting tribute to the legendary cricketer.

Gavaskar believes that Dhoni is the man because of whom Ranchi came into the cricketing map and being the most famous and recognized personality from the Jharkhand state, and this cricket legend truly deserves this honor.

He made the proposal during commenting in the ongoing third and final Test between India and South Africa on Saturday in Ranchi, where Jharkhand State Cricket Association already renamed a stand after Dhoni, but Gavaskar feels the entire stadium should be named after India’s most successful captain.

The legendary batsman feels it would be the ultimate tribute to the greatness that Dhoni has showered upon the game, as it was only Dhoni’s exploits that helped Ranchi to make its own place in Indian cricket.

Gavaskar said while commenting during ongoing Ranchi Test, “There is Pavillion called MS Dhoni in this stadium but this stadium should be called MS Dhoni because he put Ranchi in the cricketing map.”

Noteworthy, Ranchi turned into a cricket center ever since their Dhoni became the only captain to lead an International side to all the coveted ICC trophies.
