After being named T20I captain by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday (October 18), Babar Azam has termed his appointment as the biggest thing of his career so far.
He also insisted that he is ready for this latest challenge while hailing Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy in the shortest format of the game, saying he led the side by an example. Babar said in a statement released by the PCB on Friday, “To be named captain of the No.1 ranked side in the world is the biggest thing that has happened to my career to date. I am ready for this challenge and also willing to learn more in the process.

He added, “Sarfaraz Ahmed has led the side in the shortest format by example and it is my responsibility to take forward his accomplishments so that we remain a consistent, attractive and powerful side.”

Meanwhile, the PCB handed over the Test captaincy back to Azhar Ali, who feels grateful to get another opportunity to lead the side.
Azhar stated, “I am not only targeting wins but also aim to provide opportunities to players to grow in stature and express themselves so that Pakistan cricket can resume its journey to the top. I have always played my cricket the hard way but in a fair manner, and will ensure I continue to uphold the spirit of cricket and enhance the image of the team and the country.”
The PCB announced the latest changes after the team’s recent struggle across the format especially after disastrous World Cup 2019 campaign and home T20I whitewash against Sri Lanka. The also failed to make an impact in the game since their 2017 ICC Champions Trophy triumph.
