Gautam Gambhir slaps Shahid Afridi for a boundary down the ground, and the next thing we see is the two cricketers getting involved in an argument. It was third ODI between India and Pakistan in 2007 at Kanpur when Gambhir and Afridi had a heated on-field exchange of words. Commentator Ramiz Raja said if he speaks out the lip-riding of the two cricketers, viewers will have to turn off their Television. 

Usually, things get better between the players off the field. They forget the on-field fights and gel up well like friends once the game is done. But not with Afridi and Gambhir. The feud only got worse between them with time. 

Recently, in an interview with The Indian Express, Gambhir revealed how the fight has got personal now. They have often said things to each other, and it only made their relationship worse. 

“Some fights do get personal, and there is nothing wrong with that. It has been like that for a very long time. Sometimes it is nice to get personal with someone.

Gambhir said he had a good rapport with Pakistan cricketers, but Afridi isn't among them. “I have had decent relationships with Pakistani players, off the field, but not with Shahid Afridi. So that is the reason we got personal,” he said.

The cricketer-turned-politician also had a funny take on Afridi's retirement. 

“Now obviously he doesn’t play, but you never know, he might just make a comeback. He will never retire… There is a bit of history to that (the relationship with Afridi), I am fine with that.”
