India skipper Virat Kohli hinted that senior cricketer MS Dhoni is still in contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup because of his experience. Dhoni may not be playing for now, but he is not being sidelined by the selectors completely.

Uttar Pradesh batsman Suresh Raina, who is currently recovering from a surgery, opened up about Dhoni's chances for the T20 World Cup next year. He feels Dhoni still has it in him to continue till the next major ICC tournament.

"He is still fit, still a terrific wicket-keeper and still the greatest finisher in the game. Dhoni will be an asset to India in the T20 World Cup."

Raina also added how Dhoni could have contributed better if management had decided to send him a little up in the batting order against New Zealand in World Cup 2019. "Had he come earlier, he could have guided Pant and then we still had Pandya and Jadeja. Even then he kept India in the fight till the very end, and we would have won but for the direct hit from Guptill."

On his friend's retirement, Raina said, "Only Dhoni will decide when he leaves the game."

Raina, who plays for Chennai Super Kings, revealed the secret of their franchise's success. "We have many match-winners, but we play as a cohesive unit. And we have Dhoni."

India selectors are currently trying Rishabh Pant for the white-ball cricket. But Pant is failing to score big in recent times, and Raina feels he needs someone to direct him.

"He appears confused, is not playing his natural game. He is looking for singles, blocking, and appears lost."

Raina added, "Someone needs to talk to him as M.S. Dhoni would do to players. Cricket is a mental game, and Pant has to be backed to play his attacking brand of cricket. Right now, he seems to be playing under instructions, and it is not working."

He also talked about his Chennai Super Kings teammate Ambati Rayudu and said, "I felt bad for him. He had been there and groomed for a role for two years. It can be devastating to anybody."

Raina is looking to come back in November after complete rehab. "Basically, my left knee was cleaned up. I expect to be back playing in November."

The experienced middle-order batsman, who has played 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is for India, feels he bat at number four for India. "I can be the No. 4 for India. I had batted in that slot before and delivered. I am looking forward to an opportunity with two T20 World Cups coming up."
