Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan progress in ICC T20I rankings after South Africa series

The latest T20I rankings also takes into account the Bangladesh tri-series and Ireland tri-series.

India skipper Virat Kohli and opener batsman Shikhar Dhawan have gained places in the latest ICC Men's T20I player rankings announced on Wednesday (September 25).

Kohli's unbeaten 72 off 52 balls in the second T20I in Mohali saw him moving up one spot to reach 11th position in the batting list, while Dhawan jumped up three places to 13th after scores of 40 and 36 in two games of the three-match series that ended in a 1-1 draw.

South Africa’s T20I skipper Quinton de Kock leapfrogged 19 places to attain 30th position following the scores of 52 and 79 not out in Mohali and Bangalore respectively. Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has entered the top 20 in the bowlers' category for the first time while Andile Phehlukwayo has achieved a career-best ranking of seventh.

The latest T20I rankings also takes into account the Bangladesh tri-series also featuring Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, as well as the Ireland tri-series in which Scotland and Netherlands were the other teams.

In the Bangladesh tri-series, Zimbabwe’s Hamilton Masakdza retired from international cricket in 22nd place as their highest-ranked batsman while Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman has moved into the top 10 with seven wickets in the series. Hazratullah Zazai, who is at the fifth spot in the batting list, took his rating points to 727, which is the highest by an Afghanistan batsman in history.

On the other hand, Netherlands’ Ben Cooper and Max O'Dowd achieve their highest rankings at joint 41st among batsmen while Ireland's Kevin O'Brien has achieved a career-high 459 rating points in batting. George Munsey, who scored an unbeaten 127 off 56 balls against Netherlands, became the first Scotland batsman to reach 600 points. However, the ended the series in 21st position with 585 rating points.
