Zaheer Khan in awe of “special talent” Jasprit Bumrah

Zaheer believes Bumrah's unconventional bowling action has worked as an advantage rather than a weakness.

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan on Monday (September 23) said that Jasprit Bumrah's unconventional bowling action makes him one of the most lethal fast blowers in world cricket as his deliveries are difficult to be picked by the opposition batsmen.

Having made his international debut in January 2016, Bumrah has come a long way. After impressing one and all in white-ball cricket, he proved his mettle in the longest format as well.

In his debut Test season, the right-arm pacer claimed 48 wickets from 9 matches at an outstanding average of 21.02 and played an instrumental role in India’s first-ever Test series victory on Australian soil. He decimated the Caribbean batting line-up in the two-match Test series last month, claiming 13 wickets at a phenomenal average of 9.23 including a hat-trick.

"He (Bumrah) is a special talent, he has got that awkward action which works as an advantage for him over the batsmen. He is keen to learn and drive to excel. He has been working on his fitness, adding new things to his bowling. He has evolved as a bowler in a short time, that have been the keys to success," Zaheer told PTI.

"It is about how you take things into stride and what kind of approach you have. I think Bumrah has shown all the attitude of achieving that success," he added.

Zaheer also shared his thoughts on Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chaha’s omission from India’s T20I squads. Both the wrist spinners didn’t feature in India’s last two T20I series against West Indies and South Africa as the team management wanted to try out a certain combinations.

"They have been transparent about what their approach is. At the end of the day, we just have to wait and see how things evolve and shape up. We have plenty of time for the T20 World Cup (to be held in Australia), so we will have to wait and see how things evolve and what kind of experimentation happens," he said.

"So everyone is allowed to have a thought process, we have seen with other teams as well. We have seen with England team, before the World Cup, they have been transparent about it and so is this (Indian) team."
