Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan had come under threat because of a possible terror attack on the Sri Lankan team. However, SLC secretary Mohan de Silva has stated that the series will go on as scheduled.

The Sri Lankan cricket team received a threat call of a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team but the Pakistan security services have had no information about it. They have convinced the Sri Lankan defense ministry of full proof security to the touring cricketers. Therefore, De Silva has confirmed the six-match series to go as planned.

De Silva told AFP, “We have the green light from the defense ministry. The tour is on as we planned. I myself and our office bearers will also be accompanying the team.

International ties in the terror-prone country were canceled after a few gunmen had attacked the Sri Lankan team bus including superstar cricketers like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Muttiah Muralidharan. Some of the cricketers had also gotten injured during the attack.

However, six and a half years later, the Sri Lankan Cricket board has agreed to tour the country again as they have promised to provide the security that a ‘head of state’ gets. They have promised security reserved for a head of state," de Silva said.

Ten senior cricketers have refused to tour Pakistan and the visitors have already declared their squads for the T20I as well as ODI series. Sri Lanka will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is from 27 September 2019 in Karachi and Lahore.
