Veteran Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi on Tuesday (September 17) expressed sympathy for all the New Zealanders over the Black Caps' heartbreaking loss in the ICC Cricket World Cup final against England.

The English team had defeated the Kiwis in the Super Over on boundary count to lift their maiden ODI World Cup title at Lord’s on July 14. The two teams had posted 241 in their allotted 50 overs before the game went into the Super Over where once again they levelled tie.

Chasing 16 in the Super Over, New Zealand had managed 15 but the hosts were declared winner as they hit more boundaries in the match. While Kane Williamson and company had struck 17 boundaries in total, England were far more superior in that department, having smashed 26 boundaries.

"I have not been to New Zealand but I must say my heart beats for New Zealand because they were robbed in the World Cup, and I feel that was the most unfair thing to happen to anybody, and for world championship for God's sake," Bedi said on the green carpet on the eve of the IIFA Awards.

"In my heart I sympathise completely with all New Zealanders and I wish that it had gone the other way and justice had been done," he added.

New Zealand cricket team, however, didn’t let the World Cup scar go into their head and bounced back emphatically in their next series. They toured Sri Lanka for two Tests and three T20Is. While the Black Caps drew the Test series 1-1, they defeated the hosts 2-1 in the shortest format.
