PCB copes massive loss owing to irregularities in first two PSL editions

PCB has reportedly suffered a loss of Rs 248.615 million owing to irregular payments to franchises in excess of agreed share of central pool.

Due to irregularities in first two editions of Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suffered a massive loss.

According to a report published in Dawn, Auditor General of Pakistan, in a special audit report on first two PSL editions, has highlighted irregular payments to franchises, irregular advance payment to vendors, non-recovery of due from franchise, TA/DA to journalists and the members of Board of Governors.

The report also claims that PCB had to cope a loss of Rs 248.615 million owing to irregular payments to franchises in excess of agreed share of central pool.

In the report presented before Pakistan's National Assembly on Monday (September 16), it was revealed that the cricket board also faced loss of Rs 54.490 million due to irregular award of compensation to the PSL franchises while unjustified auction of franchise resulted in a loss of $11 million.

The audit report further stated that the PCB is yet to recover due amounts worth Rs 32.050 million from the franchises. Moreover, there was irregular excess expenditure on production of PSL-II final without proper estimation of Rs 18.880 million.

The report from the Auditor General has also stated that the PCB made unauthorised and illegal transfer of PSL funds worth 145.148 million into third party bank accounts outside Pakistan.

PCB suffered from a loss of Rs 13 million due to non auction of commercial broadcast rights, the report added.
