Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour Pakistan for a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series. But due to security fears, as many as ten star Sri Lankan cricketers voluntarily opted out of the upcoming visit to Pakistan, despite assurance from Sri Lanka board.

Sri Lanka cricket named a squad comprising of players with relatively lesser experience for the three-match ODI and T20I series with Lahiru Thirimanne leading the ODI side and Dasun Shanaka appointed as a skipper for the T20I series, to be played between September 27 and October.

Among those who opted out are Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Janith Perera, Dhananjaya De Silva, Thisara Perera, Akila Dhananjaya, Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Dinesh Chandimal, and Dimuth Karunaratne, opening the door of opportunity for the youngsters to step in.

Minod Banuka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa are the two uncapped names in the T20I squad. Danushka Gunathilaka, who was dropped for the home ODIs against Bangladesh along with left-arm wrist spinner Lakshan Sandakan have also been included in both squads.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are scheduled to play three ODIs in Karachi on September 27, 29 and October 3 before they move to Lahore for the T20I leg that concludes on October 9.
