Former India opener Virender Sehwag opens up about how he could look and play like Sachin Tendulkar, but could not perform as the 'Master Blaster' did. The realization of this fact made him change his game.

Sehwag had a pretty unique style of batting. He was very different from the other batsmen in his team. The likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were pretty solid with their techniques while the Delhi batsman just wanted to hit every ball to the boundary.

Sehwag said at the HT-Mint Asia Leadership Summit 2019, “I can look like Sachin, play like him, but cannot perform like him. I changed my style of play once I realised this.”

He realized his dream of batting with his idol but soon realized that he will not be able to perform as the great Sachin Tendulkar did. With his aggressive batting and match-winning ability, he became only the third Indian to score more than 8,000 runs in Tests as well as ODIs.

He said, “More than technique and method, I concentrated on the ball and hitting, which has gained me a name...When every other cricketer was watching their game to learn from their mistakes, I was the one to play only 4s and 6s and enjoy my game.”

It is very rare that a batsman with no classical technique becomes so successful at the international level. It will be tough for any team to find a batsman like Virender Sehwag!
