The fourth unofficial ODI between India A and South Africa A was played at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on September 4 and 5. The match was marred by rain and reduced to 25 overs-a-side. The match was completed on a reserve day.
South Africa A was put in to bat first after India A won the toss. Reeza Hendricks made 60*, Breetzke made 25, Temba Bavuma retired hurt for 28 and Heinrich Klaasen made a quickfire 21* with 3 sixes, as the visitors put on 137/1. Rahul Chahar was the only wicket-taker for India A.
In reply, India was set a target pf 193 runs in 25 overs as per D/L method. Shubman Gill made 12 before Nortje getting his wicket. Shikhar Dhawan provided the impetus to the innings with 52 in 43 balls with 8 fours, while Prashant Chopra making 26 with 2 sixes. At 161 runs for 3 wickets after 20 overs, the India A team looked set for an easy win.
However, Lutho Simpala (3/55), Marco Jansen (3/25) and Anrich Nortje (3/36) picked a string of wickets in the middle, starting with Dube falling for 31 and Iyer following suit for 26. This proved to be harmful to the home team as they fell short by 4 runs in the end.
