Cricketers are known to make mistakes when it comes to knowledge about things out of their domain. Mostly it happens when it comes to history and general knowledge and Sourav Ganguly fell victim to one such moment recently.
August 26 marks the birth anniversary of Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Haryana state, Bansi Lal Legha, better known as Bansi Lal. He was the Chief Minister of Haryana four times in 1968, 1972, 1986 and 1996.
An Indian independence activist and a close confidante of former India PM Indira Gandhi, Bansi Lal was credited as the architect of modern Haryana and also served as defense minister from 1975-1977 and held a minister rank without portfolio in the Union government from 1 December 1975 to 20 December 1975. Bansi Lal set up the Haryana Vikas Party after parting ways with Congress in 1996.
On his birth anniversary, a Twitter account Haryana Tweets posted a message on Twitter remembering the great man with a message reading, “Respects and homage to former Haryana CM and great administrator CM Bansi Lal on his birth anniversary.”
To this Sourav Ganguly replied wishing Bansi Lal good health, however, it seems that Ganguly was unaware that Bansi Lal had passed away on March 28, 2006, in Delhi after a prolonged illness. This showed a rare moment of mishap from one of the most knowledgeable cricketers in the country.
