After fighting through a prolonged illness, former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley passed away on Saturday. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, who was helped by Jaitley to play for India, paid a heartfelt tribute to him on social media.

Apart from being an efficient Finance Minister, Jaitley was a former vice-president of BCCI and president of Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). He helped many cricketers from Delhi during his reign. In fact, he had given his vacant residence for the marriage of Virender Sehwag. He had suggested Virender’s father use the place as it was vacant at that time. He had also renovated his house for a special occasion.

While there were many celebrities from the sport and entertainment industry present at the wedding, Mr. Arun Jaitley himself could not attend the function as he had to campaign in Bangalore.

Sehwag tweeted a long heartfelt message to the deceased saying, “Pained at the passing away of #ArunJaitley ji. Apart from having served greatly in public life, he played a huge role in many players from Delhi getting an opportunity to represent India. There was a time when not many players from Delhi got a chance at the highest level. But under his leadership at the DDCA, many players including me got a chance to represent India. He listened to needs of the players & was a problem solver. Personally shared a very beautiful relationship with him. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & loved ones. Om Shanti.
