Waqar Younis applies for Pakistan’s head bowling coaching job, as per reports

He has been the head coach of the national team on two occasions in the past.

Geo News has on Friday, 23rd August, reported that legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis has thrown his hat in the ring for the vacant position of the bowling coach of the Pakistan national team.

It is being said that Waqar, former Pakistan captain, and head coach, submitted his application on Thursday, 22nd August, to consider his candidacy for the job.  As per media reports, Younis, who had twice served as national head coach – the last time being from May 2014 to April 2016, is the most high-profile applicant for the post of team's bowling coach.

Meanwhile, Misbah ul Haq is being considered a favorite candidate to become the next head coach and even Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reportedly shown interest to offer him the dual role – Head coach-cum-chief selector, but the former Pakistan captain is yet to apply for the job.

The top positions are vacant since the PCB decided to sack Mickey Arthur and the other assistant coaches in the aftermath of Pakistan's dismal World Cup 2019 campaign and Waqar's candidacy came into the fore days before the August 26 deadline set by the board to invite new applicants for all the coaching positions.
