The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has a fair share of controversies surrounding its operations. With the selection committee seeming inefficient, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag believes Anil Kumble is the right man to lead the committee.

Sehwag has always been clear in what he believes and says. He fears nobody and always gives his genuine opinion on matters about the nation or its cricket. He now backs Kumble to become the chairman of the selection committee.

When Anil Kumble became the captain, he came to my room and said 'go and play how you play as in the next two series you won't be dropped'. That kind of confidence he gave. I think he is the right person (to become a national selector),” Sehwag said at an event in Delhi.

The selection committee has been criticized by many former cricketers and people whose opinion matters. Former Indian legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar recently called the MSK Prasad-led committee as ‘lame ducks’.

Coming to Kumble, he was the head coach of the Indian cricket team but resigned from the post after his contract expired owing to rifts with captain Virat Kohli.

Sehwag was also asked about his opinion on the ‘conflict of interest’ notices being sent to former cricketers. He said that he really did not understand those issues and did not know what to do.

Indian players have an issue with the whereabouts clause. We have been tested several times both in and out of competition. No current player has commented on it yet. So we have to wait and see. I don't understand this conflict of interest. But for a player to be banned from everything. I don't know what else we can do,” he said.
