MS Dhoni's childhood coach Keshav Banerjee feels he should play T20 World Cup 2020

Banejree wants Dhoni to quit ODI cricket and just play the shorter format.

After the completion of World Cup 2019, we got a question mark on MS Dhoni's cricket career. Is the Indian wicket-keeper batsman going to feature in the Indian side again?

There was speculation of him hanging his boot after the ICC showpiece tournament played in England. However, no one has heard anything from the 38-year-old yet, probably not even BCCI.

Dhoni's decision might not be clear, but that doesn't stop opinions from coming out. The childhood coach of the former India captain, Keshav Banerjee, expressed his views on the matter. He doesn't want Dhoni to go before playing the ICC T20 World Cup in 2020.

“I believe Mahi should carry on playing in the T20 format. ODIs are quite demanding with 50 overs of wicket-keeping and then batting. That is very tough on the body. Then there is the added pressure of helping out bowlers and fielders, so he is always in the thick of the action. Whereas in T20 it’s shorter and more direct (slam-bang),” Banerjee said while speaking to the indianexpress.com.

“Dhoni’s current fitness levels show that he is good enough to play in the shortest format of the game. I think he can play in the next T20 World Cup and then take a call on his future,” Banerjee added.

We know the opinions flowing outside won't affect Dhoni's decision on his future. Ultimately, it's him who will come out with a decision unaffected with anyone's influence.

“Ultimately the decision has to be taken by Dhoni in consultation with the BCCI. There needs to be a successful talk between the two and ensure that it doesn’t become unpleasant. His exit doesn’t become unpleasant,” Banerjee said.
