The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to increase the pay of the assistant coaches of the Indian team by 50 per cent. This means the batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar will see their salary extended to approximately Rs 15 lakh each per month.

Currently, Bangar and Sridhar have been earning Rs 10 lakh per month. As per the sources, they had requested for the pay hike as have been working with the senior team for two years now. They had also asked the board to bring in contracts for the support staff.

Last month, the support staff had turned down a proposal of 25 per cent hike as they were promised a 100 percent raise by the previous BCCI regime.

On Wednesday, the COA had announced a 100 percent raise for the centrally contracted players, which might have had a role to play here as well.

One of the sources of the board said, "There are no contracts for the support staff and their salaries had not been increased for the past two years. If they can double the pay in the players' annual contracts, the COA felt that the support staff too deserved at least a 50 percent hike."

During the England Test series last year, Bangar and Sridhar had a chat with Ajay Shirke taking the matter to the former President Anurag Thakur, both of whom had agreed to look into the matter. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri later came up with a new proposal of the 25 percent raise but it fell well below the support staff's expectations.
