The BCCI has put former India Test captain Rahul Dravid in charge of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, a role which will see him oversee the development of next generation of country's cricketers. 

Rahul's designation will likely be the "head of cricket" and the responsibilities included are to monitor the progress of the India ‘A’ and under-19 teams, apart from creating development programmes for junior squads and the women’s team. 

He will also have a say in the appointment of coaches for the NCA and zonal cricket academies and supervise injury management for board contracted players.

Dravid will no longer directly mentor the India under-19 and India ‘A’ teams, which he has been doing since 2015. Instead, former India pacer Paras Mhambrey and ex-wicket-keeper Abhay Sharma will take over the reins of respective sides. But they will still be reporting to the batting legend. 

Mhambrey will travel with the under-19 team to England and Sharma will be in-charge of India "A" side that tours West Indies in July. Dravid will travel for these tours too, but only for a limited number of days. The supreme court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) is expected to formally announce these changes and Rahul's appointment after its next meeting. 

"He (Dravid) will look after the development programme for the India ‘A’, under-19 teams and the women’s team. The NCA is a high-performance centre and with Dravid in charge, players even coaches will benefit," a source close to the development told Indian Express. 

"He will appoint coaches at the NCA and ZCA. He will conduct interviews and plan the way forward for juniors. He will travel as head of cricket when the India A and under-19 teams are touring."

Rahul will also perform a key role in rehabilitation and injury management of contracted players at the NCA. He will monitor their progress and also give feedback to the Indian team management regarding the same.
