19-year-old Gill scored 296 runs in 14 matches for Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) in IPL 2019.

Shubman Gill in action during the IPL 2019Young Shubman Gill was awarded player of the tournament in U19 team India’s World Cup-winning campaign led by Prithvi Shaw in 2018. Gill also impressed everyone with his fantastic knock against the England Colts at Brabourne stadium in 2017 as he scored an unbeaten 138 as an opener.

19-year-old Gill had a decent amount of success with Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) as he scored 296 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2019. When asked about his IPL experience, Gill said, “Overall experience in IPL was very good. Playing with such big players and winning the matches as a whole team was pleasing. I had some good experience and some bad experience. But overall, it was a good experience.

Gill in his debut ODI series against New Zealand in New Zealand batted at No.3 as Virat Kohli took rest. In the series against the Kiwis, he scored only a 7 and 9.

When asked about his international debut, the 19-year-old right-handed batsman said, “It has been a really good experience for me overall, really good learning for me and I am grateful for the experience. It was a great experience sharing the dressing room with Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and everyone else, seeing those guys, how they handle pressure, how they react in certain situations. It was an overall good learning curve for me.

During the IPL, Gill was praised a lot by the experts and former players, former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop calling him “special talent” and former England skipper Kevin Pieterson tweeting “You're watching India's next superstar” are some of the praises Gill received.

When asked about theses praises, Gill said, “I don't count on these things. When you go into the field to bat, these things don't matter. When I enter the ground, all these things fade away. My only focus is on how to score runs. Obviously, it feels great when great players talk good stuff about you.
