Not a good time for Gautam Gambhir, as after Paddy Upton, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has pointed fingers at him. Upton, India's former mental conditioning coach, had called Gambhir a negative person in his recently launched book. He, in fact, wrote that Gambhir is among the most negative sportsperson he worked with.
Gambhir never had any personal issues with Upton. But he does have one with Afridi, who called him a man with no personality and lot of attitude in his autobiography ‘Game Changer’.
Afridi had a fierce rivalry with Gambhir on the field. The two doesn't have any soft corner for each other. Once during a live show, the former India batsman had said Afridi has a brain of a kid.
Here is what the ex-Pakistan cricketer wrote about Gambhir: “Some rivalries were personal, some professional. First the curious case of Gambhir. Oh, poor Gautam. He & his attitude problem. He has no personality. He who is barely a character in the great scheme of cricket. He who has no great records just a lot of attitude.”
Afridi also added that Gambhir was negative and wasn't competitive at all. "Gambhir behaves like he’s a cross between Don Bradman & James Bond. In Karachi, we call guys like him saryal (burnt up). It's simple, I like happy, positive people. Doesn’t matter if they are aggressive or competitive, but you have to be positive & Gambhir wasn’t."
The two cricketers have had an on-field verbal spat. They had exchanged some harsh words during India and Pakistan match in Kanpur back in 2007.
Reacting on the incident, Afridi said, “I remember the run-in with Gambhir during the 2007 Asia Cup, when he completed his single while running straight into me. The umpires had to finish it off or I would have. Clearly, we had a frank bilateral discussion about each other’s female relatives.”
