Legendary India batsman Rahul Dravid might be shouldered with another responsibility by the BCCI apart from his job of mentoring India ‘A’ and India Under-19 sides.

As per a report in The Indian Express, the BCCI wants Dravid to take over as head coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) which is based in Bangalore. If the batting great takes up this role, he will have to monitor and work with various coaches at the academy.

Report also claims that the proposal was made to Vinod-Rai led Committee of Administrators (COA) by general manager cricket operations Saba Karim and NCA chief operating officer Tufan Ghosh.

Having retired from international cricket in 2012, Dravid took the coaching job in 2015 and has mentored the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari among others.

“He has been the link between the Indian team and selectors. He has been guiding everyone behind the scenes. He is the one who has been informing selectors whether a particular player is ready for international cricket or not. We felt its the right time to have him on board for bigger role. The idea was proposed during the last COA meeting and it will be taken forward accordingly,” BCCI sources told The Indian Express.

It is worth mentioning that the NCA is currently without a head coach and has only one full-time coach in former leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani, who looks after the bowlers. Earlier this year, former India batsman WV Raman, who was batting coach at the NCA, was appointed coach of the women’s cricket team.
