Virat Kohli remains at the pinnacle among batsmen as far as his spot in the ICC Test rankings is concerned. The Indian captain sits comfortably at the top of the pile with 922 rating points after enjoying a legendary year and a half with the bat in Test match cricket.

Kane Williamson is at the second position, where the New Zealand skipper has just nine less rating points than his Indian counterpart. But Williamson will be happy to know that in the latest rankings announced by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday (March 13), his teammates have substantially gained for their outstanding performances in the first two Tests of the ongoing series versus Bangladesh.

Neil Wagner has attained a career-best fifth position among bowlers after scalping nine wickets in Wellington where the Black Caps won by an innings and 12 runs. The 32-year-old left-arm has jumped up six slots and crossed the 800 rating points mark. Wagner (801) is behind Trent Boult with 825 rating points, which have seen Boult gain one slot to reach the seventh position as he picked up seven wickets in the victory that ensured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series for his team.

Ross Taylor has moved up 11 places to reach the 13th position in the list for batsmen after scoring his third double century in Test matches, while Henry Nicholls was lifted two spots by ICC for his superb knock of 107. The left-handed batsman now has the fifth position with a career-best tally of 778 rating points.

Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah, on the other hand, has reached a career-best 34th position after moving up six places for his knocks of 13 and 67 at the Basin Reserve. Shadman Islam and Mohammad Mithun have climbed from 102nd to 98th and 140th to 115th respectively. while fast bowler Abu Jayed has pushed forward 18 places to reach the 77th position after taking three wickets in this Test.
