After his Man-of-the-Match performance in the final of Big Bash League 2018-19, Daniel Christian’s confidence is sky high as he believes he has it in him to be a part of Australia’s limited-overs set-up.

Christian, who last played for Australia back in October 2017, scored 38 not out and took two wickets for 33 runs in the BBL final while playing for Melbourne Renegades against Melbourne Stars.

“I think I can, yeah,” Christian told cricket.com.au when asked if he’s capable of playing for Australia again. “I think I’m playing as good cricket – if not better cricket – than I have my entire career.

“The beauty of not playing four-day cricket for the last 12 months is being able to focus on my skills, particularly my batting and slogging at the end. I’ve been practicing slower balls and yorkers and things like that. I feel like I’m on top of my game.”

Defending the moderate total of 145, Renegades restricted Stars to 132/7 in 20 overs. The Red Army picked up seven Stars’ wicket for 19 runs after a 93-run opening stand between Ben Dunk (57) and Marcus Stoinis (39).

Talking about the high-voltage final, Christian said: “That’s an extraordinary game. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. For us to pull that back and win by 20 or 15 or whatever was just extraordinary.”

“At 0-93, looking over at their bench and knowing they still had (Glenn) Maxwell, (Peter) Handscomb, (Nic) Maddinson, Dwayne Bravo and these sort of blokes still to come, we were staring down the barrel. You take a couple of wickets and you never know. And sure enough, we just kept taking them. It was an extraordinary half an hour,” he added.

As far as Daniel Christian’s overall ODI record is concerned – he has represented Australia in 19 ODIs, scoring 273 runs at an average of 21 and claiming 20 wickets at 29.75 with one five-wicket haul.
