Sir Garfield Sobers delighted after Virat Kohli receives all three major ICC awards

Virat won the ICC Test and ODI player of the year and also the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is unmatchable says West Indies great Sir Garfield Sobers. Kohli recently bagged three major ICC awards in a year and became first ever cricketer to do so.

He not only bagged the Test and ODI player of the year awards, but the 30-year-old was also picked for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for being the Cricketer of the year.

Sobers was really happy after knowing it's Kohli who has won the award named after him. In a telephonic exchange with Mid Day, he said, "You have made my day with the great news. He is a great player and there are not many cricketers around who can match his ability. As a captain too, he is very intelligent. He deserved this award."

Sir Garry also went on to praise Kohli for being a kind person apart from an amazing batsman. "Kohli is a great human being, a wonderful person. I met him once in Trinidad. My heartiest congratulations to him," he added. 

Kohli had a fruitful year in 2018. He scored 1,322 runs at an average of 55.08 in 13 Tests. In ODIs, his average was 133.55 with six tons. Virat's 1202 runs in the year were highest by any batsman in ODI. 

"It's a reward for all the hard work you do through the calendar year. Having recognition at the global level from the ICC is something you feel proud of as a cricketer because you understand that there are many players playing the game," Kohli was quoted as saying by the ICC.

"Obviously, a very proud moment for me and something that gives you more motivation to keep repeating the same things because you have to keep the standard of cricket up and keep bringing inconsistent performances," he added.
