Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has revealed that Virat Kohli is one of his favorite cricketers, but as a captain, he still needs to prove himself, saying MS Dhoni is still the best Indian skipper for him.
Following the second T20 International between Australia and India that ended in a no result at the MCG on Friday (November 23) due to rain, the legendary all-rounder spoke about Kohli’s leadership, saying the 30-year-old needs to work on his captaincy while taking a cue from Dhoni's captaincy. He further said that Kohli needs to learn a lot from Dhoni as captain.
However, the dashing right-hander is the force to reckon in world cricket with his exemplary batting at the moment and has been breaking all kinds of records whenever he steps out to the field and even Afridi also admitted that he is an outstanding player but still, he needs to improve his captaincy.
Afridi told NDTV in an exclusive interview, “As a player Virat Kohli is my favorite but he needs to work on his captaincy because for me Dhoni is still the best. Kohli is one of my favorite players but he needs to improve as a captain.”
He further added, “As a player, there is no doubt about Virat Kohli. He is my favorite as well, but as a captain, he has to make himself use to situations in England and Australia and countries outside the subcontinent. MS Dhoni's example is right in front of us. He has always proven himself. Likewise, for Kohli, everybody knows him as a player, but as a captain, he still got time, how much he can improve is up to him.”
Meanwhile, former all-rounder also believes that Indian batsmen need to score on the Australian pitches to script victory in the ongoing tour here.
Afridi signed off by saying, “Australian pitches are not the same any more the ball bounces but it is easier to hit runs so India can win if they bat well in Australia.”
