Graeme Smith, former South Africa captain, has been invited by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Sunday (October 21) to deliver a lecture at the second edition of the Jagmohan Dalmiya Annual Conclave to be held on November 2, 2018, here.

The annual conclave is organized in memory of former CAB president and BCCI head Jagmohan Dalmiya and former India skipper Kapil Dev delivered the lecture last year. The annual event will be organized in the build-up to the silver jubilee celebrations of the 1993 CAB Jubilee Tournament: the Hero Cup, while the CAB will also celebrate the 25 years of installation of floodlights at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The first day-night match at the Eden Gardens was played between India and South Africa on 24, 1993 November (Hero Cup semifinal) and the hosts had lifted the Cup after beating the West Indies in the final at the iconic venue on 27 November.

Meanwhile, West Indian legend Brian Lara, who is in India and recently met Sachin Tendulkar at his residence in Mumbai, is also likely to attend the event, while the CAB President Sourav Ganguly revealed that they are planning to invite some other former West Indian players to attend the CAB's celebrations.

Ganguly told Press Trust of India, “We plan to see whether we can get former West Indies players. Lara is here. We will try and get something organized. 1993 was the first day-night match at Eden Gardens, it's exactly 25 years. And India played West Indies also. So we will try to get something.”

He signed off by saying on the conclave, “We have it annually. Last year it was Kapil Dev and this time Smith has confirmed.”
