England considers resting Anderson and Broad from Sri Lanka tour

England is considering resting James Anderson and Stuart Broad for the winter Test tour of Sri Lanka, as part of their succession planning for life beyond for their two fast-bowling veterans.

While there is absolutely no doubt that Anderson and Broad are still England's two biggest weapons, the English cricket fraternity feels that Anderson, who is 36, and Broad, 32, are at the back end of their careers and it is time to plan and start preparing for the future. This idea, that is still just a suggestion floating around, is a part of that.

According to ESPNcricinfo, it is possible that the likes of Jamie Porter, Sam Curran, and Jamie Overton may have the opportunity to stake a claim in Sri Lanka alongside experienced Chris Woakes. It is also likely that England might just rotate Anderson and Broad around till the Ashes at home.

Anderson and Broad are currently involved in a grueling home five-Test series against India and as it ends in the second week of September, the first Test in Sri Lanka begins in Galle on November 6 with games in Pallekele and Colombo.

The duo has been going through different injuries to their bodies as well and so managing them is one of England's top priorities.

England team is also due to visit West Indies for 3 Tests in early 2019 before they host Ireland just before home Ashes against Australia.
