India Blue's Vellaswamy Vanitha scored a crucial 51 to help her team register a thumping win over India Red in the Women's T20 Challenger Trophy in Alur, on Friday (August 17). India Blue chased down the paltry target of 85 in the 18th over.
In their quest to chase down 85, India Blue lost an early wicket in the form of Dayalan Hemalatha who was dismissed by Shikha Pandey for just eight, with the score reading 14 for 1. Mithali Raj (23*) then shared a 58 run stand with Vanitha which ensured that the Blue's were comfortably placed for a victory. Once Vanitha was castled by Deepti Sharma, Raj and Patil steered Blue home.
Earlier Poonam Raut scored a 28 ball 44 for India Red who lost wickets at regular intervals. Despite the defeat, the Red's still top the table while the Blue's are placed third behind India Green.
