Sanjay Manjrekar pays tribute to late Ajit Wadekar

 Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has given a unique tribute to late former India Test captain and chief selector Ajit Wadekar by sharing a video in which the great can be seen playing cricket on Twitter.

Wadekar, who led India to their first win against England in 1971, passed away at the age of 77 in Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital after suffering from prolonged illness on Wednesday (15 August).

Manjrekar remembered the cricketing legend by sharing a video of a friendly match in which Wadekar came out to bat on his official Twitter handle on 16 August.

In his tweet, former Indian cricketer said that Wadekar’s impact on Indian cricket is immense, as well as, called him as an “Exceptional Indian cricketer”

His post reads, “Ajit Wadekar’s impact on Indian cricket is immense. His contemporaries worshipped him, such was his aura. Found him to be a tough character as coach. Exceptional Indian cricketer… RIP Sir.”

Manjrekar further went on to express his gladness that he got a chance to take the video, in which Wadekar can be seen playing the game that he shared on Twitter. He further wrote, “Recorded this on my iPhone last Dec from Point in a friendly fixture. So glad I did.

He also shared a picture of himself along with the Test great with a caption, “Oh, I will dearly miss him. This pic taken in that same match. I was very fond of him and I guess he didn’t mind me too much either.”
