India and Essex are playing the only warm-up game that India has before they play England in the first Test from August 1.
India batted first and despite a poor start as Dhawan, Pujara and Rahane going back to the pavilion for low scores; Virat Kohli and M Vijay made up for them with a 90 run partnership. Virat Kohli was dismissed for 68 runs by Paul Walter.
Virat Kohli has a huge fan following in England as well, despite his dismal record in Tests here. Team India’s following saw them being supported by the half-filled stadium in Chelmsford.
Amongst these fans was a 5-year-old girl who was accompanied by her father. As her father, the girl is a huge Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fan and was waiting anxiously to meet her hero. The security guards also helped her realize her dream and took her closer to Kohli, twice. However, the Indian captain ignored the little girl both the times, despite the girl waiting for hours to meet him.
The 29-year-old went past her and clearly ignored despite the security officer asked him to stop for her.
When everything seemed lost, Jasprit Bumrah swooped in like a knight in shining armor and met the girl in person. Incidentally, her father is a huge Mumbai Indians (MI) fan and Bumrah gifted him a cap.
The girl’s father posted updates on Twitter and was extremely disappointed by the indifferent attitude shown by Virat Kohli towards his daughter who was eager to meet the RCB and Indian captain. He also thanked Bumrah for making up to his daughter and meeting her and for his gesture towards him.
Here are the tweets:
Divided loyalties from my Daughter. Essex is her team, Virat is her hero, hence the RCB top (although Essex shorts!) Can't wait to see her face when she sees him Wednesday @imVkohli pic.twitter.com/w1hjPZx5cC

Daughter waited twice for over an hour to meet @imVkohli her hero and he just walked passed even when your security politely asked him to stop for her. Can't fault your security persons who were fantastic with her. But she'll never get a better chance to see her hero. Real shame pic.twitter.com/0UDBVpR0XH
