ENG v IND 2018: Really surprised with Ajinkya Rahane’s exclusion from limited overs' squad, says Dilip Vengsarkar

Ajinkya Rahane is an ideal choice for middle-order, says Dilip Vengsarkar.

Former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar is confident that Virat Kohli and his young brigade will certainly have a great outing in England this time when they will lock horns against the Lions in the full-flagged series next month. He further added that it is all about how they adapt to  English conditions which will reveal the outcome of the series as far as India is concerned.

He told Sportstar on Tuesday (26 June), “India has got a great chance in England, there is no question about that. How quickly they adapt to English conditions is important. I am glad that they will be playing the One-Day Internationals first. There will be enough matches before they head to the Test matches. They will get used to it. We have world-class players who can adapt, and that will be the key in England.”

Vengsarkar is also surprised with Ajinkya Rahane’s exclusions from India’s limited overs’ squad for England series, as he is the only Indian man in the current set-up who has the descent record in England, saying he is ideal to bat at middle-order in ODIs.

He added, “I am really surprised [at Rahane’s exclusion]. It is a 50-over game and somebody has to stay around for a long time. Rahane was the right person to hold the middle-order. It is unfortunate.”

Commenting on BCCI mandatory Yo-Yo Test, the Indian great believes that fitness is an important part of a sportsman but the players should be given second chance to prove themselves.

Vengsarkar signed off by saying, “Every cricketer needs to be fit at the international level. But I believe they all must get another opportunity to clear the test, in another 10 days or so. I am sure they will do something. This way, the cricketers can always get a chance to be a part of the team,”
