Sri Lanka’s captain Dinesh Chandimal has found himself in deep trouble after ICC decided to charge him with a level 2 offense, after the ball-tampering controversy that happened on day three of the second Test against West Indies in St Lucia.

The Sri Lankan team management and Chandimal refused to let the proceedings begin on day three after it was found that on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Ian Gould had asked for a change of ball as they felt that the condition of the ball was changed.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) later confirmed that Sri Lankan players were charged for changing the condition of the ball. Moreover, the on-field umpires had changed the ball and awarded West Indies five penalty runs.

Though SLC defended their players and Chandika Hathurusingha, captain Dinesh Chandimal and team manager Asanka Gurusinha discussed the matter with match referee Javagal Srinath; the drama delayed the start of play for almost two hours.

Now ICC has gone onto to charge Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal with breach of Level 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
