Its been 16 years already. Hansie Cronje a man who'll be more remembered for making a very big mistake died on June 1st, 2002 in a plane crash. It was a tragic end of the journey of a great batsman in his prime.

Hansie Cronje scored over 9,000 international runs for South Africa at a time when international cricket was at its toughest and a nation was trying to forge an identity in a sport from which they were banned for 22 years previously.

MIxed reactions pour in yesterday on Twitter for the man but one of his former teammate Allan Donald, who is himself a legend of South African cricket, took to the needfully wisening social media network and paid a tribute to his mate.

Donald posted a picture of Hansie Cronje and wrote, "16 years ago you left us, my brother. Every time when this day comes along I think about you and the times we had together as kids playing backyard cricket and rugby test matches. Missing you always Hansie you will never be forgotten. RIP ????????"

Hansie Cronje's career can be gauged from the fact that in 2004, 2 years after his death and a few years after having been banned from the game for life due to his role in a match-fixing scandal, he was voted the 11th greatest South African.

Another South African great Dale Steyn took to Twitter and remembered Hansie on the day. Dale quote tweeted Allan Donald's tweet and wrote, "Im 2 years older than Hansie was when he passed, but I’ll forever remember him through the eyes of my 11 year old self. Regardless of his mistakes, he was my then hero, he helped pave my direction to where I am today. RIP. God bless his close friends/family"

Not every story that starts with happiness, end with it as well.
