Former India captain was nominated by the BCCI for the Padma Bhushan award, the third highest civilian honor of the country. He was chosen by the selection panel and the award was presented to him by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, today at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
MS Dhoni received the Padma Bhushan by the President of India at the investiture ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here.
The honor comes to MS Dhoni on the same day on which he led India to its second 50 over World Cup triumph in 2011. India defeated Sri Lanka in the finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Dhoni has been the recipient of many awards, including the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2008 and 2009 (the first player to win the award twice), the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2007 and the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor in 2009.
In cricket, MS Dhoni is the only captain to win the ICC World T20 (2007), ICC 50 over World Cup (2011) and ICC Champions Trophy (2013). India climbed to No. 1 in the ICC Test Rankings in December 2009 under his captaincy.
