New Zealand's Plunket Shield on Friday witnessed the history of two hat-tricks that fell in the same hour at opposite ends of the country for the first time in the history of the tournament.

New Zealand Cricket official statistician Francis Payne confirms that it is the first time in the long history of the competition that the exploit has taken place twice in one day and that too within 30 minutes of each other.

Wellington Firebirds’ Logan van Beek claimed a first career hat-trick against Canterbury at Hagley Oval, taking the wickets of Chad Bowes and Michael Pollard before returning in his next over to make his victim Ken McClure.

On the other hand, Auckland Aces’ Matt McEwan earned a maiden first-class hat-trick, with his feat also split over two overs, as Dean Brownlie, BJ Watling and Daryl Mitchell all fell for Northern Districts.

Even, New Zealand Cricket also share the video footage of the remarkable feat on their official Twitter handle with the caption, “Remarkable scenes in today's Plunket Shield action. For the first time ever two hat-tricks have been claimed on the same day!”
