Harmanpreet Kaur, who has now become a household name owing to her spectacular show in last year’s ICC Women’s World Cup, joined the Punjab police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on Thursday (March 1).

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora fixed the stars on Kaur’s uniform.

Confirming the news, Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted: “Proud to join DGP Suresh Arora in pinning the stars on the uniform of this young cricketer @ImHarmanpreet as she takes over as DSP in @PunjabPolice. This lady has done us proud and I’m confident she’ll continue to do so. My best wishes are with her.”

Harmanpreet, who was earlier employed by Western Railway, put in a request to join Punjab police in July 2017 and the state Chief Minister did his level best to take the matter to the Ministry of Indian Railways.

Just a week ago, Kaur has thanked the Punjab CM and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal for providing the required support to ensure the job for her.

“Excited about joining @PunjabPolice as DSP. Thank you Chief Minister @capt_amarinder Ji for pursuing my bond waiver with @RailMinIndia. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also @PiyushGoyal Ji for your help in the matter,” Harmanpreet Kaur had written in her tweet page.

According to the bond signed with Indian Railways, the 28-year-old cricketer could not be relieved till the end of her five-year term or she would have to payback the wages of five years.

Harmanpreet Kaur grabbed the eyeballs of cricket fraternity with her scintillating 171 not out against the Southern Stars at Derby which propelled India into the finals of last year’s ICC Women’s World Cup. In December 2016, she became the first Indian woman cricketer to play in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and recently she signed a bat endorsement deal with CEAT.
