Zimbabwe captain –Graeme Cremer believes that their successful World Cup qualification campaign can lift the entire nation if they succeed in qualifying to play the World Cup 2019 in England.

According to a report in Reuters, the all-rounder told reporters an interview at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates, “Our country has gone through some tough times. It'll lift the whole country if we're able to qualify.”

Since 1983, Zimbabwe have participated in every World Cup, but this time they have to go through some stiff competition to see themselves in the mega ICC event.

Zimbabwe will host the World Cup Qualifier (WCQ) tournament from 4 – 25 March 2018 and 10 Team’s competing in 34 matches for two berths in the World Cup 2018.

Cremer further added, “If we don't (play in the World Cup), it will be a huge setback for us. Qualifying will make teams want to play us. If you don't qualify, you sort of fall down the pecking order. So we know if we qualify we'll get a lot more cricket after that, which is what we've been hoping for.”

Commenting on his team’s strength and weakness, the 31-year-old, “Our batting is a bit of a concern at this stage. Our middle order... all the ability is there and the talent is there, but (they are) just not firing consistently enough. I (also) feel a little bit of inexperience in the bowling, especially with the seamers.”

Cremer signed off by saying, “I like to value myself as an all-rounder, not just a bowler. Those 20, 30 runs can be the difference between winning and losing, so I enjoy my batting. I work quite hard at it.”
