Legendary Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram has heaped praise on Indian captain Virat Kohli's recent batting prowess. Kohli has taken his batting to a different level altogether in the ongoing South Africa tour.
After amassing 286 runs at an average of 47.66 on some of the most difficult wickets in the recently concluded three-match Tests series, the 29-year-old scored two more ODI tons in the first three ODIs against the Proteas.
Kohli was the highest run-scorer in the Test series and was the only centurion from either side, and now his innings of 112 in Durban, 46* in Centurion and 160*in Cape Town have ensured an unassailable 3-0 lead for the visitors in the ODI series.
In an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak, Wasim Akram said: “He [Virat Kohli] is a leader, he leads from the front. He got the captaincy at the right time and also made his impression from the very start. His fitness and fielding have totally changed the course of India cricket. He is a complete sportsman on and off the field.”
“There was Sachin then came Dhoni and its his time to carry the mantle,” he further added.
The ‘Sultan of Swing’ also asserted that although there are quite a few top players around the world, but today’s youngsters only talk about the Indian captain.
“What a way he [Kohli] is batting, scoring hundreds with ease that too while chasing. He is a treat to watch. I think the youngsters of cricketing world currently know about only one name (referring to Kohli), even though there are 3-4 top players,” opined Akram.

It is worth mentioning here that Kohli now boasts 34 hundreds in ODIs in which 20 of them have come in chase and India have emerged victorious on 18 occasions. Moreover, Virat has 21 Test tons to his name and is the only batsman in the planet who’s averaging well over 50 across all three formats.
