India’s latest leg spin sensation Yuzvendra Chahal won the ICC T20I Performance of the Year award at the ICC Awards 2017 for his incredible haul of 6/25 against England in Bengaluru.
Chahal who was playing at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium which is his home ground, as he plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the IPL. He had the confidence and backing from his captain Virat Kohli, who understands him the best, as both play for the same IPL team.

“It always feels like home,” he said after the match. “I've bowled in the Powerplay before in the IPL, and Virat has confidence in me that I can do that. I plan that batsmen will want to go for their shots because it's a small ground, so I have a chance for wickets. I bowl a fuller length, so I have a chance for lbws if they miss the sweep and reverse-sweep. I never dreamed I'd get six wickets."
Chahal had the comfort of defending 202 runs, which India scored batting first. Chahal’s 6 wickets included the likes of Jason Roy, Sam Billings, Joe Root, Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes.
Chahal was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series as he ended with figures of 6/25 – which is the best bowling figures by any Indian bowler in T20I format and third best in T20I history behind Ajantha Mendis’ 6/8 and 6/16 against Zimbabwe and Australia respectively.
