Rubina Chhetri – Captain of Women’s Cricket Team in Nepal, where Cricket is the second most popular sport after football, has expressed her desire to play in Kashmir after spending time with Jammu and Kashmir players during Chief Minister’s T20 premier league in Jammu.

Nepal, whose biggest cricketing achievement was their qualification in 2014 ICC World T20 held in Bangladesh, is an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). In July 2007, Nepal made their debut in the ACC Women’s Tournament in Malaysia and finished up as the runners-up.

Chhetri is among a dozen international women cricketers from Nepal and Bangladesh who are taking part in the Chief Minister’s T20 Premier League –the first such tournament in Jammu and Kashmir, which is jointly organized by Jammu and Kashmir police and state Sports Council.

Initially, she was unenthusiastic to be part of the league in the state due to ‘fear factor’ but now feels she made a right decision to play here and currently she is enjoying her game here.

Speaking to Press Trust of India, Rubina Chhetri said, “When I got an invitation for this league, I was scared to come here (because of militancy). After overcoming my fear, I feel I have made a right choice and I am enjoying my game. I wish I could visit Kashmir as well.”

Nepal skipper Rubina, who was the first Nepalese cricketer to take a hat-trick in an international game, further added that she has been to different states of India including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana and this was her first visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Besides the international women cricketers, 70 players from 15 different states of the country and 45 state players, including a half from Kashmir, are taking part in the tournament.
