Delhi opener Kunal Chandela

Kunal Chandela, Delhi’s young opener smacked a brilliant century against Bengal in the ongoing semifinal encounter in the Ranji Trophy 2017/18. He added 232 runs for the first wicket with fellow opener Gautam Gambhir to put Delhi in strong position.

Chandela had previously hit three fifties in the ongoing Ranji season. The 23-year-old said, “I have benefited a lot from University cricket. I have heard how past greats of Delhi cricket have emerged from University cricket. My selection in Delhi Ranji Trophy has been on basis of back to back Vizzy Trophy triple tons. You learn to play day’s game from Vizzy Trophy.

Kunal is studying BSC (IT) at Hembati Nandan Bahuguna University in Garhwal and decided to skip his semester exams in order to appear in the semifinal against Bengal. He said “I had my exams on 20thbut I had to skip it. I take time out to study and attend lectures when I get time.

Chandela revealed that Delhi captain Rishab Pant was his junior in high school.

Gautam bhaiyya told me to play the way I know the best. He told me to remain free while batting. When I tried a sweep shot, he told that since I am hitting well straight, I don’t need to play across,” Chandela said about the senior opening partner.
